Kat Von D (born Katherine von Drachenberg on March 8, 1982) is a tattoo artist and television personality.
She is best known for her work as a featured tattoo artist on the TLC reality television show Miami Ink.
A subsequent TLC series starring Von D, LA Ink, premiered August 7, 2007 in the United States and November 11,
2007 in the UK.
Born on March 8th, 1982, in the city of Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. She moved to the United States when she
was four settling in Colton, California.Her father René von Drachenberg is of German descent and her mother,
Sylvia Galeano has Spanish-Italian roots. She speaks fluent Spanish and English[1]. She has a brother Michael
and a sister named Karoline Smith.

Growing up in the Inland Empire, she made her first tattoo in 1996 with a homemade rig at age 14, an old english "J"
on her ankle, a memento of a love gone-by. In 1998, she began working in her first professional shop, Sin City Tattoo.
This was a great period of growth in her work and led to her eventually moving to True Tattoo for a chance to work with
Clay Decker and Chris Garver. This afforded her the opportunity to live and work in Hollywood, Los Angeles.
While working at True Tattoo, Von D met her ex-husband, Oliver Peck, and occasionally worked at his tattoo shop,
Elm Street Tattoo, in Dallas, Texas. She was featured in the 2008 book Permanence: Tattoo Portraits by artist Kip Fulbeck.

She is currently dating Nikki Sixx from the band Mötley Crüe.


Kat is also starring in an upcoming film directed by Charlie Picemi, The Bleeding. Its plot follows a man on a mission to
rid the world of vampires, one of which is Kat Von D. The film is set to open in 2009 and also stars Vinnie Jones, DMX,
Michael Madsen and Michael Matthias.

In 2008, Kat was one of the contributors to Carrie Borzillo-Vrenna's book Cherry Bomb along with Dita Von Teese,
Tori Amos, Cherie Currie of the Runaways, Terri Nunn, Lisa Loeb, Katy Perry, Jessicka, Samantha Maloney,
Betsey Johnson, Anna Sui, and Louise Post. She gave tips on tattooing.

Kat also has her own make-up line on Sephora, and is the creator of the Musink festival. She has a book compiling
her artworks and tattoos coming out in January 2009.

Apoi primul său tatuaj făcut altcuiva a venit la scurtă vreme fiind un craniu Misfits. A început să lucreze într-un
salon de tatuaje la varsta de 16 ani avându-l ca mentor pe Tim Hendricks.

Pană în 2007 aceasta a lucrat la Hollywood în salonul lui Clay Decker- „True Tattoo”. De curând, aceasta s-a mutat în
Miami, Florida, făcând parte din echipa „Miami Ink”.

A început sa lucreze pentru echipa de tatuaje in timpul primului sezon de reality-show care ii avea pe aceştia
protagonişti. La sfârşitul celui de-al doilea sezon a părăsit acest reality-show, dar şi oraşul Miami şi salonul
de tatuaje din cauza unor neînţelegeri cu Ami James.

Kat se reîntoarce în Los Angeles şi decide să îşi deschidă propriul salon de tatuaje numit „High Voltage Tattoo”.
Salonul său a fost atracţie principală a unui alt reality-show numit „LA Ink” care a avut premiera în august 2007.

În timp ce a fost angajata salonului din Miami, Kat Von D a mai lucrat în paralel şi pentru „Elm Street Tattoo”
în Deep Ellum, Dallas, Texas şi pentru „Inflections” în Covina, Califonia.

Ea este unul dintre artiştii de tatuaje invitaţi de cele mai multe ori să participe la conferinţele de tatuaje din
Statele Unite ale Americii şi din Canada.

Kat Von D este foarte cunoscuta pentru portretele sale foarte reuşite şi realiste, portrete ce sunt făcute
folosind o tehnică specială de folosire a culorii negre şi a culorii gri.

It's a funny thing about biography pages on websites... they never seem to achieve their goals. Ostensibly, the facts presented seem to attempt to give you some idea of the artist, where they are from, where they are going, what they believe to be valuable, etc....More
they are intended to let the visitor know better the person behind the work, but usually fall far short of communicating any real sense of their character. They read more like a bland political pamphlet than an insight into their personality, and in doing so, nothing more than a contrived sense of image is conveyed. It is with this in mind and in the spirit of trying to do better that, when asked, I gladly accepted the chance to write this little note and hopefully help those who are curious to know more about my friend Katherine.

So much for the basics of her biography, let's move on to the what I think really matters, who I feel she is as a person and who she is as my friend. From the moment we met, I knew she was a bright, talented girl with a true affinity for tattooing and our six years of friendship have offered me a view of her life that not only confirmed my initial impressions but exceeded my expectations. As many of you who have tried to arrange an appointment with her know, she's booked completely with a long waiting list, but what most people aren't aware of is that long before she appeared on television, she was one of the busiest artist's in Los Angeles. Her work spoke for itself and each piece she finished brought in fresh interest, this in addition to her comfortable bedside manor had her working at a pace that few equaled. To this day, I'm regularly astonished at her work ethic and enthusiasm for every piece she does, and her endurance, I say with lack of any exaggeration, is extraordinary. She is generous to a fault, incredibly loyal to her family, friends, and those in our business who treat her fairly; and despite all the bullshit that is part and parcel of this industry and the demands she is under, she is generally in a good mood and always finds the time to be there for you if you need her. I am glad to know her and proud to call her my friend.
